My Loc8tor

My Loc8tor is a hand-held tracker that searches for homing tags attached to your keys, wallet, phone, handbag, mp3 player, tv remote, phone charger, model aeroplane, dog, child, and all the other things that get lost.

My Loc8tor tags are small and light, so can be attached easily using the key-ring loops or adhesive strips supplied. The Locator registers and names every tag so that it now belongs to you, and can only be tracked by your Locator.

To find something, select its tag name from the displayed list. Then just follow the on-screen directions, the homing beeps, the mobile-phone style vibration, and the flashing light on the tag.

Find your colleague at a show, find your tent at a festival, recover your tortoise, keep an extra check on your kids, find the teddy bear lost whilst shopping, or set a safety zone round people or possessions.

In the box, there's a hand-held Locator, two homing tags, a keyring loop, some adhesive strips for attaching the tags, batteries, and a comprehensive user guide in English, French, German, and Spanish. Setup is easy and just takes a few minutes, using the on-screen menu.

After you've done a quick test, hide your tagged keys behind the sofa cushions, or drop them in the grass at the end of the garden, or leave them in a coat pocket in the cloakroom, have a coffee, relax, then go back and find them.

It's a great way to track your tortoise, find the handbag bag you left in a shop, follow your model aeroplane, or find the keys you left on the beach. Of course, you might have found them eventually, but you might have lost them for ever.

The photo shows the hand-held body, the sliding protective cover, the menu-driven backlit LCD, the four control buttons, the four-way menu selector, and a homing tag with an LED. You can buy extra homing tags: up to 24 can be registered.

LOC8TORS

The version shown in the photo, and briefly described above, is the original Loc8tor. However, there are two other versions: the Loc8tor Lite and the Loc8tor Plus. It's important to understand the differences, so the three versions are summarised below.

LOC8TOR LITE

Loc8tor Lite is about the size of credit card. It has one operating mode: locate. In locate mode, it searches for homing tags: direction and proximity are represented by a column of eight LED lights. The pack includes one hand-held and two homing tags.

LOC8TOR

Loc8tor, shown in the photo near the top of the page, is about the size of a mobile phone, so a little larger than Loc8tor Lite. It has one operating mode: locate. In locate mode, it searches for homing tags: direction and proximity are shown on an LCD screen. The pack includes one hand-held and two homing tags.

LOC8TOR PLUS

Loc8tor Plus is about the size of a mobile phone, and the same size as Loc8tor. It has two operating modes: locate and alert. In locate mode, it searches for homing tags: direction and proximity are shown on an LCD screen.

In alert mode, an alarm sounds when an object, animal, child, or dependent friend or relative goes out of a pre-set range defined by near, medium, or far. The pack includes one hand-held, three homing tags, and one panic tag. The panic tag can contact your hand-held, in an emergency.

NOTES

Loc8tor has won several awards, including an Honours at the Consumer Electronics Show 2006, New Product Of The Year 2006 selected by the CBI, two Gold medals and one Silver from the British Invention Show For Design, Innovation, and Invention, and was selected as one of the best inventions for 2006 by Time Magazine.

Although Locator is an excellent tracker for children or dependent friends or relatives, and you can find them in a crowd or on the beach, don't totally rely on it. Technology is no substitute for an aware and interested carer or parent.
